About Hildegard Gunzel.
Hildegard Günzel is the most decorated artist of
doll-making in the world. She is
creating dolls for about 30 years and is one of the people
highly involved in the history of doll-making.
Hildegard Günzel was born in 1945 in
Tauberbischofsheim/Germany.
She graduated from the German Master school for
Fashion Design in Munich and worked as a designer for
the fashion and jewelry industry. In 1972, she
started making dolls as a hobby. She began
modeling with different materials, often with cernit.
Currently she only works with plasteline. Since 1980
she only produces her work in porcelain which is
covered with a special wax. The wigs and outfits are
always created by her personally. Hildegard Günzel designed
the first, reproduction artist doll that came on the market
for the firm Wanke.
Hildegard Günzel runs her House of Günzel in Duisburg,
Germany, where the dolls are made by an exquisite team.
In 1996 she opened her "Museum
for Contemporary Doll Art for the public.
In 1996, Hildegard Günzel presented her first
collection of teddy bears. Being very successful, she
founded a company for her teddy bears the Hildegard Günzel
Teddybär GmbH
Every year a new collection of porcelain dolls in limited
editions is introduced by Hildegard Günzel at the Toy Fair,
Nürnberg, the IDEX, San Francisco and the TOY FAIR, New
York.
For all the interested in dolls and doll-making she
published several books in Modeling with Hildegard
Günzel are most important for every beginner in doll
making.
In addition to numerous international prizes like the DOTY
AWARD and the DOLLS OF EXCELLENCE USA, Hildegard
Günzel received the JUMEAU award for her complete work and
for her book "Doll Fantasies“. In August
2003 she received "DISCOVERY AWARD“ by
Doll crafter and by Jones Publishing (USA) the
accolade of theLIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
